First Leaning Tower of Pisa and now the Leaning Colosseum

This is the second monument in Italy, which has raised concerns among experts and archaeologists. The magnificent Colosseum is slanting 16 inches (40 cm) lower on the south side than on the north.

Colosseum is renowned as an iconic landmark for its antiquity and famous for the bloody gladiator fights during the Roman Empire. It is one of the top attractions in Rome enjoying hordes of tourists all year around.

However, Director of the 2000-year-old Colosseum has requested the La Sapienza University and environmental geology institute IGAG to launch a study on the recurrent phenomenon concluding in twelve months time.

It is believed the traffic nearby roads may have an impact on the colossal structure. The Colosseum is located in one of the busiest thoroughfares in Rome. The Colosseum roundabout is a magnificent sight amid the congested traffic jams. Further stated due to the vibrations of the traffic, there may be a fracture in the base of the 42 feet (13 m) thick slab of oval shaped concrete.

Investigations have been performed whether urgent repairs are required. Hence, restoration of the Colosseum will begin in December and will complete renovation in two years and six months. Find our cheap flights to visit Rome from UK.
