Travel news- The UK red list could be renewed with a host of new countries added as Covid cases rise overseas.
Currently, there are no countries on the UK red list – however, Grant Shapps, the Transport Secretary, says this could change as new restrictions and lockdown regulations return in parts of Europe.
The UK red list was empty since the seven remaining countries on it – Ecuador, the Dominican Republic, Colombia, Peru, Panama, Haiti, and Venezuela- was removed from Monday the 1st of November at 4 am.
Grant Shapps has issued a stiff warning that the Government is prepared to relaunch the UK red list countries and territories back if needed.
Europe faces a new surge in cases, with Austria entering a full-scale lockdown from Monday, the 22nd of November, for 10 days after a spike in cases.
Angela Merkel, the Chancellor of Germany, confirmed the nation is in the midst of a “dramatic” fourth wave, as daily infections scored a new German record of over 65,000 on Thursday, and unvaccinated people will be excluded from specific venues under the strict new rules.
Data analyst Tim White has listed the destinations worldwide that have seen a dramatic increase in cases and could take their place on the UK red list.
He highlighted record infection rates in Norway, which reached an all-time high in last week’s seven-day average.
Austria, Denmark, Germany, Iceland, the Netherlands, and Slovakia also see a rise in infections, with seven-day averages at an all-time high.
Furthermore, Belgium also sees a surge, with over 12,000 new cases in the 24 hours to Wednesday, while the Czech Republic’s daily cases have risen by 50 per cent compared to a week ago, and Finland have risen to 21 per cent.
Croatia has also seen a rise since late August and has been seen as another country causing attention.
While the USA has only recently reopened its borders to British tourists, it is also encountering a surge in cases and has warned there could be “big trouble ahead” for the nation as Christmas nears.
Therefore, British tourists are advised to check with their airline before travelling for the latest updates on their destination.
