UK travel corridors: Sri Lanka, Israel and eight other countries added to the quarantine-free list

The UK Government removed Greece from the UK’s travel corridor list last week. In contrast, some of the famous tourist attractions, including Dubai, made it to the travel corridor list.

The good news extends this week, as Transport Secretary Grant Shapps made his latest UK Travel corridor list update in his Twitter page and stated that;

“ISRAEL, NAMIBIA, RWANDA, SRI LANKA, URUGUAY, BONAIRE, ST EUSTATIUS & SABA, THE NORTHERN MARIANA ISLANDS and THE US VIRGIN ISLANDS have been ADDED to the #TravelCorridor list.”

He also added,
“If you arrive from these countries after 4 am on Saturday 21st Nov you will NOT need to self-isolate.

Were any countries removed from the air bridge list?

Fortunately, not.
It was confirmed by Shapps in another tweet as,

“We will NOT be REMOVING any countries from the #TravelCorridor list this week.”

Does this mean Britons can travel abroad for a holiday?

No.  The DfT has said that, during the lockdown, “people can no longer travel to take holidays or travel internationally – unless for work or other legally permitted reasons.”

In addition to this, the rule of fining £200 to a maximum of £6,400 for those who breach the travel restrictions, is still intact. As confirmed by the DfT, this shall only end on 2nd December.

Are all these countries in the UK Travel Corridors list quarantine-free destinations?

Unfortunately, no.
Not all of these countries allow tourists, yet. Hence, it is advisable to check the prevailing entry restrictions in these countries beforehand.

In regards to the countries added to the UK Travel Corridors list today, Sri Lanka, Bonaire & Saba, and Israel do not still let tourists in.

What countries can Brits visit right now?

  • Namibia
Condition: It requires a negative Covid test taken 72 hours before arrival.
  • Uruguay
Condition: It has the same rules as Namibia, but additionally prefers a seven-day quarantine while on arrival. One can, though, exempt from this by submitting a negative Covid test for the second time.
  • Rwanda
Condition: It requires a negative Covid test, 120 hours before travelling and a 24-hour quarantine on arrival while waiting for the second negative Covid test result. It may cost you nearly £38.
  • St Eustatius
Condition: Requires a compulsory 14-day quarantine on arrival.

The Quarantine free holiday destinations added to the UK travel corridors list are now also exempt from the Foreign Office’s (FCDO) blanket advisory against all non-essential international travel.

However, the FCDO also advises that,

Travellers should always check the latest advice from the FCDO, given the potential for changing coronavirus infection rates to affect both the advice about travelling to other countries and rules about self-isolation on return.”

When you can't find me travelling, you'll either find me buried in some fictional destination that I see in a book or one that I had created myself. That is pretty much about me, a brown girl who was born to read and write. So what inspired me to write about and for travelling? I'd say, Mark Twain, for his description of the voyages or Paulo Coelho for his pilgrimages, and the list would go on. But in reality, it is the fact that I was born in the hill-country! The wet roads, the fog, the greenery, and the never-ending supply of fresh coffee has always kept me introverted to observe the little things about the world, and these, you will find in all my writings. Oh, and I also bond well over movies, cats, and love cooking!
