Latest travel rules for Spain as Omicron variant detected!

Spain has announced some changes to its travel guidelines in the wake of Omicron. So, if you’re travelling to Spain, keep reading to find out all about the latest travel rules coming into effect.

The regional health department of Madrid confirmed there were two cases of the variant in Spain.

England has also changed its rules for holidaymakers going to Spain, so those travelling between will face new Covid measures.

Two other people were suspected of being infected with the Omicron variant in Catalonia.

Following the first case, the Spanish Health Ministry decided to introduce a 10-day quarantine period for passengers arriving from South Africa, Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho, Mozambique, Namibia and Zimbabwe.

What does this mean if I am travelling to Spain?

Don’t worry, you’ll still be able to visit the destination, that is, if you’re planning on travelling to Spain from UK.

The UK is not listed under the Spanish Government’s risk countries. However, the Spanish Government reviews its list every seven days so travellers are advised to check the website for the latest travel rules.

Currently, when travelling to Spain from the UK, you will have to provide a certificate or document certifying you are double jabbed against Covid-19.

As of December 1, the country also increased the restrictions on passengers, who will now need to prove they have had two doses of the vaccine.

If you are travelling to Spain from a third country such as Australia, Canada, Argentina or China, you will also need to provide documentation certifying that you have gone through a Covid test within 72 hours before arrival in Spain, or an antigen test taken at least 48 hours before arrival.

You may also produce a medical certificate saying that you have recovered from Covid in the last six months prior to travel.

At the present time, it’s not mandatory to present any form if the trip to Spain is by land.

From 4am on December 7, all people aged 12 and over must take a PCR or lateral flow test (LFD) before they travel to England from abroad.
