The Beach
You can choose from two gorgeous beaches; the Rambla Claudio Williman facing the Rio de la Plata Side and Rambla Pacheco facing the Atlantic Ocean. The former beach offers a calmer sea ideal for swimming while the latter facing the Atlantic is windier and favoured for surfing.
Hit the Restaurants
Seafood is a big hit in Punta del Este; check out the Lo de Tere Restaurant for the best. Fresh mariscos shellfish is well made at the restaurant, offering diners an opportunity to enjoy their meals to fantastic views of Maldonado Bay and Isla Gorriti.
Visit the Sweet Factory
Tamblo el Sosiego is the producer of the regions favourite sweet; the Lapatai brand dulce de leche. Guided tours are available through the whole process of how the famous dessert is made. Located on a dairy farm just 12 miles from Punts del Este this is a fabulous and delicious attraction to visit.
Cathedral de San Fernando
One of Uruguay’s most regal churches the Cathedral de San Fernando took over 94 years to complete. Boasting neo-classical architectural styles the church built in 1895 is just 10 minutes from Punta del Este.
Visit the Fishing Village of Hose Ignacio
Located just 30 minutes from Punta del Este this is a must visit place. Very popular amongst tourists the laid back fisher village has a population of 200; it is ideal for a taste of delicious local cuisine and feel of local architectural styles.
Check out La Mano
Located at the Bravo side or Atlantic Beach side of Punta del Este, La Mano is a giant sculpted hand rising out of the sea. Created by the Chilean artist Mario Irarrazabal in 1982 the sculpture was made in remembrance of drowned local sailors.
Hit the Bars at Night
Bar hopping is quite the rage around the sunny resort. The nightlife is quite hip with clubs filling up by midnight. You will notice that most parties get started only around 2 am in the morning. Tequila lounge is by far the most hip night club often grazed by the likes of Michael Buble and Naomi Campbell.
Explore the Islands
Explore the beautiful islands of Los Lobos and Gorriti with a 10 minute boat ride from the city centre. Isla Gorriti is ideal for enjoying the scenery and spending a relaxing day in sunny confines. The Island of Los Lobos is home to a huge seal colony.
Catch a Fashion show
Summer is most famous for the Punta del Este fashion shows; put up by prominent designers Argentines Dotto and Robert Giordano. Prince Pierre Casiraghi of Monaco and singer Shakira are known to attend.
Enjoy Fishing
Punta del Este is famous for saltwater fishing. You can head over to the pier and fish from shore or consider chartering a boat and heading out to open waters. Either way fishing will prove to be quite rewarding with mullet, tuna, bluefish etc. up for grabs.
