Aliaga House
Aliaga House is as old as the city; Francisco Pizarro who fought for and founded Lima in 1535 gifted the house to his ally Jeronimo de Aliaga; whose family have lived there for generations. The gorgeous interiors on public display are home to Peruvian artefacts, art and Jeronimo's sword.
Government Palace and Plaza de Armas
Sitting beside the Rimac River this is the official residence and office of the Peruvian President. It looks out to the city’s highest point San Cristobal Hill. The place has a spiritual significance to it and was also the residence of the last Inca Chief. Tours must be pre-arranged and booked with registered operators.
Church of San Francisco
One of the most unspoilt monuments in Lima the Church of San Francisco built in 1600’s reflects Baroque styles in architecture. The outer courtyard is inundated with thousands of pigeons and you will find people selling bird seed to visitors who like feeding them. Ancient religious texts and other artefacts make this a culture buffs haven.
Larco Museum
A fabulous browse the Larco Museum is home to artefacts that range across 3,000 years. Admire ancient textiles, ceramics, precious metals and mummies from various cultures. You can scour the store rooms to observe artefacts not on display such as Peruvian pottery in the shape of animals. There is also a room where erotic archaeological artefacts are displayed.
Pucllana Temple
The Pucllana Temple or Huaca Pucllana is located in the ritzy district of Miraflores. It is a ceremonial religious monument constructed around 500 A.D. Well restored the site is still active with many artefacts including mummies still being found.
El Malecon
El Malecon is a six mile stretch of parkland located in beautiful Miraflores. Doing justice to the city’s reputation as a garden city, the park runs along the cliffs overlooking the mighty Pacific Ocean. You can cycle, jog or simply admire the gorgeous vistas off the cliff tops.
Larcomar
Situated in Miraflores, Larcomar is a multi-story shopping and entertainment mecca that skirts the cliff tops. Well planned out the complex is built into the cliff face; due to this the shopping centre is not visible from the street. Peruvian cuisine and American meals are served at the restaurants.
Avenida La Mar for Ceviche
Ceviche is an iconic Peruvian dish of raw fish, onions marinated in lime and hot chillies. Avenida La Mar in Miraflores is the best place to eat this mouth-watering dish.
Bridge of Sighs
The Bridge of sighs is a wooden structure that runs across Baja de Banos. This is a stone path that goes down to the Pacific Ocean, Barranco. In the 19th century this was a hip neighbourhood.
Magic Water Circuit
Located in downtown Lima this is a feature of over a dozen fountains that shoot water to the skies to the strains of music and light. A must see spectacle it is open from 4pm to 10pm Wednesday to Sunday.
