Lomas de Arena
Lomas de Arena is a large desert that is framed by tropical forests, savanna and glistening lagoons. Visiting the area requires a 4 wheel drive and expertise of a good tour operator; it is well worth the effort though. Look forward to sandboarding, bird watching and spotting sloths.
L Plaza 24 se Septiembre
La Plaza is a picturesque garden located in the city centre. Enjoy shopping at the ‘Shopping Bolivier’ relax at the sunny cafes and restaurants and explore the gorgeous facades of the huge Cathedral. You can enjoy the clean environs indulge in a game of chess and simply relax.
Samaipata
Samaipata is a lovely historic village located about 120kms from Santa De Cruz. It sits at the foot of the Cordillera at an altitude of 1,600 metres. The village is quite close to the pre-Inca ruins of El Fuerto and is an interesting browse for learning about local culture and tradition.
The 3 Cascades near Santa Cruz
The three cascades are located about 50kms from the city centre of Santa Cruz. They are accessible only through a private land; hence an entry fee is charges. The environs are lovely for swimming and enjoying a picnic.
The Santa Cruz Basilica
Explore the stunning facades of the Santa Cruz Basilica. The vintage building boasts many architectural styles and is a must visit for all culture buffs.
The Amboro National Park
One of the most unspoilt parks in Bolivia the Amboro National Park is located just 3 hours from the Santa Cruz city centre. Spanning over 600,000 hectares the park boasts over 4 bio-diverse zones. Home to over 700 species of birds the park is where you will come across the Amazon Basin, Andes mountain terrain, sub-tropical forests and mild woodlands.
The Jesuit Missions
Visit the 16th century missions set up by the wandering Jesuit priests. Closest to Santa Cruz are the Concepcion and San Javier ruins. Driving the 5 hours to San Javier is a treat, for along the way you will pass Mennonite establishments and a fast changing landscape.
Visit the Gardens
Santa Cruz is home to lush tropical havens in the form of parks. Visit and enjoy the ecological marvels of the Botanical Gardens, La Rinconada and Yvaga Guazu. All three parks are home to exotic Bolivian flora and offer tranquil environs complete with water features for a relaxing respite.
The Bolivian Pantanal
Part of the national protected parkland the Bolivian Pantanal crosses over 7 varied bio diverse zones. The Bolivian sector covers about 10 percent of the Pantanal’s and is a nature lovers paradise. Enjoy treks and hike across the stunning backdrops.
The Noel Kempff Mercado National Park
Believed to be the inspiration to Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s book ‘The Lost World’ this park is a stunning and mysterious land. The park is home to 4,000 species of flora, 600 varieties of birds and endangered vertebrate species.
