Vale de La Luna

The Valley of the Moon is probably the most peaceful place in all of Bolivia. The tranquillity and stunning beauty of the place will engulf you. There are camping grounds near the park for those who want to experience a night in the magical realm. The valley is about 10kms from La Paz city centre.

Witches Market

Browse the fascinating Witches Market. This is the best place to buy good luck charms, make a wish and cast a spell. There are dried animal offerings, vegetable offerings and mineral offerings to be made in return for what you want.

Plaza Murillo

Plaza Murillo is dominated by La Paz Cathedral while lots of colonial style buildings dominate the square. The Presidential Palace also referred to as the burnt palace; is located at Plaza Murillo. The climb though is steep but well worth the effort for stunning scenery.

Visit the Museums

The Museum of Textiles is an interesting browse; on display are textiles and woven cloth together with clothing from across the Bolivian region. The coca museum chronicles the history of coca leaf which is turned into cocaine. The National Museum of Art housed within a 1775 building displays art from around Bolivia.

Iglesia San Francisco

The stunning interiors of San Francisco Church will impress all culture buffs. Construction of the church started in 1548 before La Paz was established it was however destroyed due to heavy snow and reconstructed in 1784. Visiting hours are from 4 to 6 pm, Monday to Saturday.


One of the best archaeological sites in Bolivia; the place was home to the pre-Incan civilization, Tiwanaku; which survived for over 500 years. There still are many parts of the site that are under excavation. Visit the on-site museum, the Akapana pyramid and the sacred temple.

Road to Coroico

A must visit for the adventure hungry the road to Coroico is one of the world’s most dangerous roads. Bikers from around the world gather there at an altitude of 4,700m and take the dangerous 1,400m ride down; along gravel paths and breath-taking scenery. Make sure to hook up with a reputed tour company.

Killi Killi Hill

Sacred to the Indians of Bolivia Killi Killi hill is probably the best lookout point in all of Bolivia. The lookout point gives you a birds eye view of the valley below while a Spanish Indian monument symbolizing ‘togetherness’ is set up on the hill.

Titicaca Lake

Sitting within a mountainous desert Titicaca Lake is a stunning sight. Rent a boat and explore the vast waters and visit the local people on the banks of the river. You can try tasting some of the food sold there such as the fried trout.
