Balboa Park Gardens

The Balboa Park Gardens includes multiple horticultural styles and environments. Some examples are the Alcazar Garden which is a formal Spanish style garden, Palm Canyon that has 50 species of palm trees, Japanese Friendship Garden, Australian Garden, Rose Garden and the Desert Garden which is best viewed in the spring. Free weekly tours are available for visitors which take you through the history of the gardens and even a lesson in Botany.

Hotel del Coronado

Known in short as ‘The Del’, This magnificent hotel was the world’s largest resort at the time that it was built. It was designed by railroad-depot architects James and Merritt Reed. The main building of the hotel features conical towers, turrets, balconies and large public spaces. The interior has acres of polished wood and gives off an old-fashioned feel. It was featured in the 1959 film ‘Some Like it Hot’ and has had many famous guest including 11 U.S presidents.

This monument is dedicated to Portuguese explorer Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo who made a voyage up the California coast in 1542. The visitors center has information and presentations about everything you may want to know about the explorer and also includes other exhibits about early native Californian inhabitants and their history.

San Diego-La Jolla Underwater Park

Accessible from La Jolla Cove this is where you will be able to have the best diving and snorkeling experience and see California’s official state fish, the orange Garibaldi. This underwater park has a depth of 20 feet and is 6000 acres in size. Scuba-diving lessons are conducted and you can rent or buy the equipment you need for the underwater activities.

USS Midway

The USS Midway is the longest serving Navy aircraft carrier of the 20th century and is now a floating museum that relives almost 50 years of world history. Ranked as San Diego’stop attraction Once on board you can expect a self-guided audio tour of 60 exhibits and 29 restored aircrafts. Exhibits include the crews sleeping quarters, a gallery, engine room, ship’s jail, post office and pilot’s ready rooms.

Mormon Battalion Historic Site

This center was recently remodeled and has exhibits and resources with information about the group of Mormon men and women who joined the U.S Army that resulted in a long march from Iowa to San Diego and came to be known as the Mormon Battalion in the year 1846. The battalion march of 2,000 miles is known as the longest military march in history.

LEGOLAND

This 128 acre park designed according to the famous play item is specifically for kids aged 2 to 12 years. Legoland has over 50 rides, attractions and shows providing education and fun in one place. The atmosphere here is such that it makes you feel as though you’ve shrunk and entered the amazing world of Lego building blocks. Apart from the fun rides there is also the LEGOLAND hotel and LEGOLAND waterpark.

Seaport Village

The 14 acre Seaport Village was opened in 1980 and recreates a harbor setting and has shopping, dining and entertainment facilities. These include 54 shops, 13 casual dining eateries and 4 fine dining restaurants. The village also has tours of small and large groups that help you to buy meal vouchers, VIP passes and gift certificates.

Old Point Loma Lighthouse

This historic lighthouse is situated on San Diego Bay at the Point Loma peninsula and was built in 1855 after California had already become a part of the United States. The lighthouse is no longer in operation but is now a museum that is open to the public. It was lit for the first time at sunset on November 15, 1855.
