Klyde Warren Park
The Klyde Warren Park is one of the newest green spaces in Dallas and is located in between downtown and uptown. There is a wide variety of activities and features available here some of which include a dog park, a children’s playground, a fitness area, ping pong tables and more. Other events such as concerts are also held here from time to time and a food truck station if you want to have a quick snack.
Nasher Sculpture Center
The Nasher Sculpture Center is a blend of both indoor and outdoor galleries and looks like an archeological site. It is one of the premier art museums in Dallas. Despite the way it looks it is extremely modern and the art displayed here can be enjoyed by adults and children alike.
George W Bush Presidential Center
This museum houses official records and artifacts from the 8 year Bush presidential term. The exhibits include more than 70 million pages of paper records, four million digital photos, 200 million emails, a full scale replica of Bush’s Oval Office, steel from the World Trade Center after the attacks in 2001 and Florida voting chads from the 2000 election. The museum is located on a 15 acre park in the same grounds as the Southern Methodist University.
Dallas Musuem of Art
The collection at the Dallas museum of art consists of 23,000 items ranging from European paintings to Pacific Island sculptures. Some of the more important standouts here include ‘The Iceberg’s’ by Fredric Church and others by Edouard Manet and Paul Gauguin. The museum is easy to navigate and is amazing to view. Other collections include the African collection and the Ancient Mediterranean collection.
White Rock Lake Park
Constructed in 1911, this park is located on a reservoir and offers the best outdoor recreation. Its 1,000 acres of wooded parkland includes 9 miles of jogging and biking trails perfect for those who enjoy energetic activities. If you are a bird watching enthusiast there is also a bird sanctuary along with fishing spots and great places to view the Dallas skyline.
Dallas Zoo
The Dallas Zoo has over 8,000 beautiful and captivating animals from all over the world. The ‘Wilds of Africa’ exhibit is one of the biggest crowd pullers here and include chimps and African elephants. Get the rare opportunity of feeding a giraffe and watch the lions while you eat lunch. The zoo has a special area for children where they can interact and pet animals such as pygmy goats, ponies and birds and the monorail train that takes visitors around the park.
Dallas Arboratum and Botanical Garden
This beautiful garden has 66 acres of flower beds, lawns and trees. It also has around 2400 types of Azaleas and is the only place where you can access Huang Collection specimens from outside China. The garden has statues and the DeGolyer mansion, a Spanish style mansion built around 1940 by Texas oil baron Everett DeGolyer.
Perot Musuem of Nature and Science
This relatively new museum is a combination of three museums, the Dallas Museum of Natural History, Dallas Children’s Museum and the Science Place. It is located close to the Arts District and was opened on December 1, 2012. The activities and exhibits here are great for the entire family with an IMAX theatre, outdoor plaza, a science park that includes water features, giant leapfrogs and musical instruments.
Dallas World Aquarium
You will only realize how amazing this aquarium is once you venture inside and see the crocodiles feeding, birds flying about freely, Mayan dance performances and the 40 foot waterfall and these are only just a handful of the thrills that await you at this one of a kind place. Some of the animals you can hope to see here are monkeys, manatees, sloths, panthers, sea turtles, jaguars, otters, catfish, sharks and penguins.
Sixth Floor Musuem at Dealey Plaza
This museum is exclusively dedicated to President John F Kennedy and examines his life, times, death and legacy. The collection here includes 40,000 photographs, interviews, artifacts, displays and videos that will take you through the series of events in history that led upto his assassination in 1963. The museum store also sells keepsakes.
