Abu Dhabi is also the most populous city in the United Arab Emirates with a population of over 2.3 million people. The city is the centre of political and industrial activity in the United Arab Emirates, and is a major cultural and commercial centre owing to it being the capital city. Holidays to Abu Dhabi are spent in glitzy shopping malls or touring the magnificent metropolis. The area is known to have been inhabited for over 5,000 years, although the city bears scant resemblance to an ancient civilisation due to rapid and perpetual development over the past few decades.
