Alanya Museum

The Alanya Museum maybe small but it is filled with interesting artifacts that more than make up for its size. Walk around and take in the ancient jewellery and pottery such as jugs and tools that reflect an ancient culture. These have been collected from Pamphylian sites in the area.


The Alanya Citadel walls were built by the Selcuks in the 13th century. It overlooks the breathtaking Mediterranean it is four miles long and completely surrounds the Alanya Castle. Citadel is beautiful to look at, with its mix of dark green trees, old stone walls and deep blue sea. It is currently pending membership as a UNESCO World Heritage Site


The literal translation of Pamukkale is ‘cotton castle’ in Turkish. It is a natural wonder created by incredible mounds of salt and is amazing to see. Owing to its natural beauty it used to be an ancient holy site. Today it attracts visitors from the world over who come to experience the hot springs.

Damlatas Cave

The Damlatas Cave is a place of natural wonder. As you enter the caves you will instantly feel a relief from the heat as the cool atmosphere relaxes you. It is filled with stalactites and stalagmites which are 15,000 years old. The natural air in the caves is said to be good for people suffering from asthma.

There are interesting ruins dating back to the 11th century to explore, though not very well preserved.

Red Tower

The Red Tower, so called for the colour of the bricks used in the construction, is a symbol of Alanya. Known as the Kizil Kule in Turkish, it is considered one of the best examples of medieval military architecture. The Ethnographic Museum of Alanya is located within the tower, which is why you should definitely make a visit.

Cleopatra’s Beach

Legend has it that Queen Cleopatra while on voyage of the Mediterranean, stopped at this bay in Alanya for a swim. It is a quiet and relatively secluded location offering fine views of the fortress and is a lovely place to enjoy a relaxing swim in the warm Alanya sun.
