La Carihuela

La Carihuela used to be the fishing district of Torremolinos and is one of the few areas that has not been overdeveloped. The promenade includes shops, bars, restaurants and a the best place to enjoy fresh seafood on the weekends. There are several high rise hotels located here that have managed to retain its Andalucian coastal charm.

Mariposario de Benalmadena

This park is home to around 1500 butterflies which include exotic sub-tropical species, moths and cocoons and you can view them as they would be in the wild. Also a part of the park are plants and water features as well as a few other animals such as two iguanas, a wallaby and one giant tortoise.


The Playamar is a long stretch of beach that is lined with beach bars but at the same time quite family friendly and includes pedalos, playgrounds, sunbeds and parasols. It is a popular spot for a quiet stroll or if you are into fitness a great place for a jog. Films are also screened on the beach during the summer.

Buddhist Stupa

The largest stupa in Europe it stands at a height of 108 feet. It was opened on 5th October 2003 and was designed by Buddhist master Lopon Tsechu Rinpoche. While many stupas around the world are typically sealed structures, this one has a meditation room and a room where exhibitions about Tibetan Buddhism and Himalayan culture are held.

Sea Life Aquarium

This modern aquarium mainly displays Mediterranean marine creatures and includes organized games and shark feedings three times a week. The Rockpool experience here gives you the opportunity to hold a crab and touch a starfish. Its 36 spectacular displays includes sharks, Giant Turtles and rays. Other attractions at the aquarium include an underwater tunnel, children’s play area and sea view café.

Museo Benalmadena

This museum has two sections, one section exhibits local archeological finds and the other section displays a collection of Mexican and Central and South American artifacts. Archeology fans will especially enjoy this museum and English guides are available if you wish to have one.

Puerto Deportivo de Benalmadena

The Puerto Deportivo de Benalmadena is a port which is located on the coast and is well known for its mixture of Gaudl and Asian style architecture. The port has a wide array of bars, restaurants and shops that give a nice view of all the boats.

Crocodile Park

This is Europe’s only Crocodile park and is home to more than 200 of these creatures. This park gives you the experience of being close to them as possible but still safely fenced off. It has both babies and adult crocodiles some weighing upto 500 kg. This is where you will find the biggest crocodile in Europe known as the Gran Paco or ‘Big Daddy’ in English and even get the opportunity of holding a baby croc.

Plaza Costa Del Sol

This square is in located in the central part of the city and attracts many people both tourists and locals alike. It has many places of interest and many hidden corners to discover. The square includes shops, restaurants and retail stores. For convenience there is also a small guest house that is located close by.

Calle San Miguel is an area with a wide variety of shops and stores where you can find a lot of bargains. It also has bars and restaurants that cater to a variety of taste buds no matter what you may be craving. For entertainment there are street performers and is a great way to spend time in Torremolinos.
