The Castle Viewpoint
On top of a rock separating the two main beaches of Benidorm was the fortress that was built to defend the people of the coastal town from Algerian pirate raids during the 14th to the 16th centuries. The now abandoned castle ruins are known as the Balcony of the Mediterranean.
San Jaime Church
This church, built in the 18th century, is dedicated to the patron saint of the town. It is set atop the old town on a hill named Canfali. This neoclassical building is complete with the typical blue Mediterranean dome. Inside is a statue of the beloved saint Virgen del Sufragio.
L´Aigüera Park
This park, designed by the architect Ricardo Bofill, is a long green park in the neoclassical style. It separates the old quarter from modernised parts of the town. The park contains two beautifully crafted amphitheatres that are used for theatrical and musical performances and cultural events mainly in the summer.
Benidorm Town Hall
The new town hall, colloquially known as the floorscraper, is a very different kind of monument. Intriguing many architects and enthusiasts who visit it every year, this building has been created in the shape of a bridge into the L´Aigüera Park. This “horizontal skyscraper” is a must-visit sight in Benidorm.
Poniente Beach Promenade
This new-age promenade has been created by architects Carlos Ferrater and Xavier Martí Galí to take the form of cliffs and waves, generating areas of light and shadow, and convex and concave surfaces. This unique promenade contains platforms at different levels that can be used for recreation, leisure, and meditation.
