The Venetian Harbor

The Venetian Harbor with the lighthouse is the city’s emblem. It was constructed by the Venetians amid 1320 and 1356. The port, together with its encircling region, is popular for its splendid design that unites Eastern and Western components. It is a sentimental site packed with ancient recollections.

The Maritime Museum

Situated in the Firkas Fortress, the two-levelled structure comprises 13 exhibits offering the marine past of Crete, from relics to the Battle of Crete in 1941. It consists replicas of different boats, wreck finds, records on the Greek Navy, sailing tools, audiovisual material and a library of marine books.

Municipal Art Gallery of Chania

The art gallery of Chania focuses to encourage the Cretan and Greek lifestyle, and be a hub of Cultural knowledge, possessing Fine Arts as its base. The gallery is now holding the “No Limits” showcase, together with works from 48 painters around the world.

Chania Market

The city market is situated in the middle of the Old Town where the leading ramparts once existed. It was unfurled by Eleftherios Venizelos in 1913 and is deemed one of the most magnificent enveloped fairs in the Balkans. The fair has 76 stores, plus butchers’, fishmongers’, common shops, a chemist’s and various others.

Chania Archaeological Museum

The Chania Archaeological Museum is found in the Venetian church of St Francis, in the city’s hub. The displays comprise of pottery, sculpted stone items, sealstones, sculpture, metalwork, gold jewellery and coins from neolithic, Minoan and Roman periods, exhibited in sequential arrangement.

Therisso Village

A tiny, charming village a few kilometres outside Chania, is a famous place. It was the hometown of Cretan insurgents Vassilis, Giannis and Stefanos Halis who played a key part in the battle against the Turks and the deliverance of Crete. Later, in 1905, Eleftherios Venizelos arranged the Revolutionary Assembly in the village.

Balos Lagoon

Balos, west of Chania, will tempt the tourists with its aquamarine waters, wild pure charm and foreign terrain, popular around the world. Balos Lagoon is the most snapped beach in Europe. Prince Charles and Princess Diana used to tour Balos on their personal yacht many years ago.

Phalasarna

Phalasarna is an ancient Cretan colony constructed in 333 B.C. It has one of the most stunning beaches in Crete, perfect for kite surfing enthusiast. The place is not destroyed by resorts or other profit-oriented ventures but accommodates various stylish restaurants and bars.

Samaria Gorge

One of the most beautiful and spectacular pure appeals in Crete. It is 18 kilometers in length, located amid the colony of Omalos on the northern part of the highland and the village of Agia Roumeli differing in height from 1250 meters down to ocean level.

Elafonisi

Elafonisi beach is situated at the Southern West section of Crete and it is roughly 75km from Chania. It is popular for its transparent glassy waters and pink sand, generated by millions of pinks shells which, over the years, have been shattered into small parts from the waves.
