Jaffna Library

The Jaffna library was one of the top in Asia before it burned down, but currently most of it is repaired and it is open for general viewing. It is one of the colossal structures in Jaffna and close-by to the town.

Jaffna Fort

The historic fort in Jaffna is the second biggest surviving fort in the Island. Initially constructed by the Portuguese in 1619 and renovated and extended by the Dutch in the second half of the 17th and the 18th centuries to ease bartering ventures of Sri Lanka’s northern district.

Nallur Temple

Jaffna's leading place of Hindu worship and distinguished by a golden dome and detailed gopuram draws hundreds of devotees and believers. The current structure of the Kovil goes back to the eighteenth century. The initial temple is said to go back to the period of the Tamil monarchs.

Sangilean Thoopu

This arch is located in the land where the former Tamil King Sangiliyan's Castle stood. Now there is an opening-arch, but this is indicated to be a portion of a later Dutch structure. The Sangilean Thoopu is around 2.7 Km from the Jaffna bus stand.

Nainatheevu - Naga Pooshani Ambal Kovil

The initial temple was constructed by a wealthy foreign merchant who obtained gifts from Goddess Ambal Devi when going by in the ocean, it was flattened in the sixteen century by Portuguese. Nevertheless, Ambal sculpture was concealed by natives and the temple was re-constructed in the 18 century, the genuine gopuram was included in 1933.

Kandarodei / Kadurugoda Temple

Located in the middle of Palmyra trees next to Chunnakam. Tiny dagobas tallying 61 are strewn across around 1/2-acre land and built with ash-shaded rock. A Buddha figurine, Bodhisattva figure, a rock scripture and some coins thought to be during the 1st and 2nd centuries were discovered in this region. They are kept at the Jaffna museum.

Casuarina beach

The top beach in the Jaffna cape, the shallow waters and the very light waves make it perfect for secure ocean bathing. You could swim a long way toward the ocean in the transparent blue water and it’s an ideal site to tour to have an escape during your holidays.

Charty Beach

This fresh and clear famous beach is located in Allaippiddy, which is found around 23 Km North of Jaffna Town.

Keerimalai/Naguleeswaram Temple

Keerimalai is famous for its pure water spring where illnesses and sicknesses are cured, just a rock barrier divides the pool from the ocean but the water is fresh water arriving from a spring. The Temple is located next to the Keerimali pond and is very famous with Hindu’s.

Dambakola Patuna

An historic harbor in Sri Lanka, this is where Sangamiththa theraniya disembarked while escorting the Bo saplings utilised at Sri Maha Bodiya. There is a temple and a sculpture of Sangamiththa theraniya. The Tamil title of this site is known as; Mathagal and located about 20 Km from Jaffna Town.
