Madu River

Coral Sanctuary
Hikkaduwa’s overused ‘coral sanctuary’ widens out from the shore of ‘Coral’ resorts at the north end of the peel to a bunch of rocks a few hundred meters offshore. Eggs are collected or purchased from local citizen and hidden in the sand hatchery.

Hikkaduwa National Park
Extending down the northern tip of the beach, it’s a pleasurable and simple way to get a look of some of Sri Lanka's aquatic animals. Snorkelling equipment could be hired from locations surrounding the park, and Glass-bottomed boat tours are also obtainable.
Seenigama Vihara
Around 2km north of Hikkaduwa, placed on its own island. It’s one of only two temples in the country where sufferers of robberies could look for justice. With the oil they light a lamp in their houses and chant a hymn.
Hikkaduwa Lake
Hikkaduwa Lake, with its monitor lizards and countless birds, makes for an enjoyable trip away from the beach. Boat trips could occasionally be arranged on the lake; ask around. To arrive there travel down the Baddegama Rd.
Gangarama Maha Vihara
Gangarama Maha Vihara is located just off Baddegama Rd, this fascinating Buddhist temple that has plenty of famous academic illustrations that are the handiwork of one man over almost a decade. The monks are willing to show you around.
Sea Turtle Hatchery
If you're in Hikka, you have to visit the turtle hatchery. It's a site where a tiny number of turtles are nurtured and looked after in huge aquariums. Situated on the beach extent in Hikka, north of the railway station. Simple to find the exterior walls are covered in colourful turtle themed paintings.
