TOP 10 PLACES TO VISIT
Check out our Top 10 attractions in Djibouti City and make sure you don't miss it
Lac Abbe
Unique scenery and deserted surroundings make Lac Abbe an interesting sight to visit. While home to nomads that feed their cattle and camels off the mineral-rich hot springs, the area is quite lonely in which flamingoes make a rich tapestry.
Tadjoura
Djibouti's oldest town, it was a hotspot for slave trafficking. The green Goda mountains cover it while the sea laps at its doorstep. The coral reef is great for snorkeling and diving. The view of the town is amazing, with some peaks rising over 1300m.
Marche Central
The town's own chaotic market place, this is a great place to take a stroll through any time of the day. The activity and hustle bustle of the town will keep you entertained for hours, or decide to enter the fray.
Dolphin Excursions
Enjoy some soothing times with dolphins, snorkel, swim with white sharks, or just watch the activity. The Bay of Ghoubbet is great for swimming with white sharks, while the Moucha and Maskali Islands are great for diving excursions.
Lake Assal
A day trip to Lake Assal is a great way to spend a day in Djibouti. Take a bus there, look at the cracks in the tectonic plates, the Devil's Cauldron, and the rift between the lake and sea. Collect some salt crystals to take back.
Port
Djibouti's main deep-water port serves surrounding countries. While not beautiful, the activity and importance of the port cannot be denied, and the containers are an imposing site.
Hot Springs
Near Lac Assai, one finds natural Hot Springs that originate in the hills and culminate in a pool. The waters are extremely hot, and fish that swim in have been boiled by the heat of the pool.
The Canyon
Located halfway between Lac Assai and Djibouti City, one sees the lookout point above the Canyon. It is a natural canyon that has been cut from the rocks. Highly windy, and possibly dangerous to go right to the edge to look into the canyon.
The Gulf of the Demons
The Bay of Ghoubbet as it is also known, is about 200m deep, and is surrounded by a volcanic rock. It is this rock, which gives the waters a dark look, leading to the name.
The Animal Refuge
Located 20 mins from the city, the refuge houses animals that have been rescued by officials from those attempting to smuggle the animals. Zebras, the rare Oryx, antelopes and cheetahs are a common sight in the refuge.
