Travel news- The UK red list could be renewed with a host of new countries added as Covid cases rise overseas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Currently, there are no countries on the UK red list – however, Grant Shapps, the Transport Secretary, says this could change as new restrictions and lockdown regulations return in parts of Europe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The UK red list was empty since the seven remaining countries on it – Ecuador, the Dominican Republic, Colombia, Peru, Panama, Haiti, and Venezuela- was removed from Monday the 1st of November at 4 am.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Grant Shapps has issued a stiff warning that the Government is prepared to relaunch the UK red list countries and territories back if needed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Europe faces a new surge in cases, with Austria entering a full-scale lockdown from Monday, the 22nd of November, for 10 days after a spike in cases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Angela Merkel, the Chancellor of Germany, confirmed the nation is in the midst of a “dramatic” fourth wave, as daily infections scored a new German record of over 65,000 on Thursday, and unvaccinated people will be excluded from specific venues under the strict new rules.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Data analyst Tim White has listed the destinations worldwide that have seen a dramatic increase in cases and could take their place on the UK red list.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He highlighted record infection rates in Norway, which reached an all-time high in last week’s seven-day average.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Austria, Denmark, Germany, Iceland, the Netherlands, and Slovakia also see a rise in infections, with seven-day averages at an all-time high.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Furthermore, Belgium also sees a surge, with over 12,000 new cases in the 24 hours to Wednesday, while the Czech Republic’s daily cases have risen by 50 per cent compared to a week ago, and Finland have risen to 21 per cent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Croatia has also seen a rise since late August and has been seen as another country causing attention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
While the USA has only recently reopened its borders to British tourists, it is also encountering a surge in cases and has warned there could be “big trouble ahead” for the nation as Christmas nears.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Therefore, British tourists are advised to check with their airline before travelling for the latest updates on their destination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
