You can have starches such as fufu, ugali, pap, sadza or mealie meal \u2013 a stiff maize meal similar to thick polenta.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A variety of bread.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vegetables: homegrown herbs similar\nto spinach, butternut squash.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A spread of fresh salads. (Though\nfresh lettuce and cucumber can be rare at times)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A variety of game is served, usually\ngrilled medium-rare because the meat does dry out easily \u2013 for example gemsbok,\nspringbok, impala, ostrich, kudu and warthog. (in case you are wondering and\nfeeling guilty about eating game, don\u2019t worry! The meat comes from farms and\nnot the reserve you are visiting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You can expect robust oxtail stews,\nlamb shanks in red wine, butter pastry meat pies, Cape Malay or Indian curries\nand plenty of heavy root vegetables.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Game birds such as guinea fowl and\nquail (Farmed)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Seafood \u2013 local fish, prawns and sometimes other shellfish.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fine dining \u2013 some lodges of tasteful\nmenus including dishes such as \u201ccrisp bass with porcini mushrooms and oxtail\ncrust on wilted greens with red wine mushroom sauce\u201d. If the idea of eating\nwarmed canned beans at a fire leaves you fearful, you should consider a safari\nlodge for options like this.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
